Why We Insist on “Follow-Up” Appointment at Exl Dentist?

A Dental Follow Up Appointment is the one that is scheduled after the planned treatment phase is over. Missing your follow up appointments, can be a missed chance of catching up on any complication or undesired impact of the treatment done.

Some patients feel the need of such appointment is useless which can later on even lead to the failure of treatment done.

During the follow up appointment the dentist makes sure that your teeth, mouth and the treatment done are healing well and are in good health.

Though in my opinion all treatments require a follow up visit, but I would like to state the importance of it in some of the procedures:

  1. Extractions:  Every teeth extraction, even extraction of mobile teeth require a follow-up appointment. This is important to ensure that the extraction wound is healing well, to check for any signs of infection or dry socket or to even remove sutures if given.
  2. Implants:   Post implant placement, mostly sutures are given, so to remove the same such appointments are important. Also, since the implants take few months to Osseo integrate (fuse) with the bone, thus making it utmost important to visit your dentist regularly to keep a track of its healing.
  3. Crowns and Veneer Placement: Your dentist just fixed your crowns or veneers and you are a happy person getting your new bite back, but the treatment hasn’t finished yet. Even though your bite feels perfect on the same visit but its important to visit your dentist after 3-4 days to check the bite once again.
  4. Orthodontic Appointments: Be it Braces or Invisalign, orthodontic follow up appointments are really a must. Missing such appointments can cause delay in treatment leading to lengthening the treatment time and frustrations.
  5. RCT or a Filling: This helps the dentist to monitor the ongoing healing process and ensure the tooth is properly restored.
  6. Dentures: Delivering a complete denture or a partial denture is never the destination of the process. Training a patient as to how to use the same is equally important for which follow up appointments are more important than just merely completing the work.
  7. Gum Treatment: Whenever we perform any kind of gum treatment, in my view the success of the treatment lies in its “Maintenance Phase”. It can “Make or Break” the outcome of the treatment.

Thus We @exldentist being the #bestdentistingurgaon really insist on our follow ups. One way to encourage the same in my viewpoint is to not charge the patient for follow ups for the work you have performed.

Also, I feel that such visits really helps to establish a doctor patient relationship which is based on trust and open communication. This is especially important for patients who have dental anxiety or fear of dentist.

By building up a rapport in such manner, we help alleviate these fears and provide more comfortable and positive experience for further dental issues as well.
